- “Offline” status despite fresh batteries and working Wi-Fi. The Assure Lock’s Wi-Fi or August module draws heavily on alkalines, and when voltage drops below 5.2 volts, the radio drops before the motor does. We’ve also found that mesh networks with band steering confuse the Yale module, especially in older Houston homes with plaster-and-lath walls that attenuate 2.4 GHz signals.
- The auto-lock feature fires randomly or not at all. The door position sensor, a small magnetic reed switch in the strike plate area, gets knocked out of alignment or fills with metal shavings over time. On some Nest x Yale units, this sensor is integrated into the lock body and requires full replacement.
- The keypad accepts the code but the motor never engages. This points to a failed motor or stripped gearbox, common after four to six years in Texas humidity where the grease hardens and the motor stalls against the thickened lubricant. We see this most in homes near the Gulf Coast, where salt air accelerates the breakdown.
